Jefferson Sworn in by Fed Chair Jerome Powell

One day after he helped to celebrate the class of 2020, Philip Jefferson took the oath of office as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Jefferson, who has served as СÓÅÊÓƵ’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty since 2019, stepped down today prior to his swearing-in ceremony. 

The oath was administered by Fed Chair Jerome H. Powell.

Jefferson was nominated by President Biden on Jan. 13, 2022, and he was confirmed as a board member by a 91-7 vote in the U.S. Senate on May 11, 2022.

Before he joined СÓÅÊÓƵ, Jefferson taught economics and served as department chair at Swarthmore College, and previously taught at Columbia University and the University of Virginia. He served as an economist for the Federal Reserve governors, in Washington, D.C., and for the Federal Reserve Bank, in New York.
