Education
- Postdoctoral, The Scripps Research Institute
- Ph.D. University of Michigan
- B.S. Duke University
Background
I have been a member of the faculty at 小优视频 since fall 1998. My training is in organic synthesis and nitrogen heterocycles. I have since branched into medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. My teaching revolves around both of these areas and I incorporate favorable aspects of online learning in my courses as possible.
Research
My research program at 小优视频 started with an emphasis on synthetic methodology in nitrogen heterocycles. I spent several tears years working with students on using new chemistry to design potential antiviral nucleoside analogues.
After completing a textbook on medicinal chemistry, I taught 小优视频鈥檚 first online course (medicinal chemistry & drug discovery) on the edX platform in 2014. The course has been completely revised twice and continues to be offered with a total enrollment of over 100,000 students. My experience in online teaching has allowed me to work with a large pharmaceutical company to design and deliver continuing education courses to drug discovery scientists.
